INTRODUCING — Blogger, model, and Youtube star, Whitney Madueke, as she opens up about her experience with the African fashion community.
Where do you work?
I just quit my job at Ralph Lauren so I’m currently freelancing as a content creator, Youtuber, and blogger, so I work at home basically [laughter].
What is your background?
I grew up in Nigeria until I was about 18 and then I went to England to study law, so yeah I’m also a lawyer [laughter]. I think I’ve always been interested in fashion. I remember being young and I would watch Fashion TV back in Nigeria. I don’t know if you guys know it but, it’s basically a channel that you would just watch everything related to fashion and I would just like really enjoy what I was seeing.
"Africa is worth the attention and we’re much more than the stereotypes that are out there and we should definitely be given a chance."
How did you get into fashion?
At a young age I realized I wanted to be a fashion designer, so I’ve kind of just been putting myself in situations involving fashion.
What is Africa’s role in the future of global fashion?
The future is just really bright for us. The help of social media is just really putting us out there in so many ways. You know there are lots of brands out there that you know you can find what you need in them. Africa is worth the attention and we’re much more than the stereotypes that are out there and we should definitely be given a chance.
